First off, thanks to everyone for your wonderful comments! It’s great for us to know that so many friends and family out there are thinking of us. As I noted in the edit below, I’ve put the images up in the gallery now (where they belong), and moved the links accordingly. Also, I have already proven I’ll make a great Dad: I put completely naked pictures of my son on the Internet where they will undoubtedly come to haunt him in his teenage years. It’s probably too late, but that has been corrected.
From the 8 PM update last night, they let K rest for quite a while getting deep into her epidural. She even got a little bit of sleep as contractions marched on at the previous rate. The L&D floor was packed (as it has been pretty much every time we’ve been there) and there were two deliveries in progress, so it took a while to get the epidural in the first place, but even afterwards they were so busy that they didn’t rush her along. Eventually, about midnight or so, they got things kicked up to a pretty crazy tear. K was blissfully unaware of most of it, which allowed her to rest up for the pushing. After they turned the epidural off, she started pushing about 3 o’ clock or so. At that point she was at station +1. Within about an hour she had moved to +2 and the nurses were very impressed with her progress. By 5 o’clock, the baby was born. The nurses and residents were pretty impressed BEFORE they saw how big Nathan was, and then they were really gushing.
K required some pretty significant repair due to Nate’s passage and it took over an hour to get her patched up. I was able to do some male bonding during this time (and while she recovered from the painkillers they gave her), which was fantastic for me but obviously not so pleasant for K.
The pediatrician has already seen Nate and said everything looked great.
Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers. Although things didn’t really go as we hoped, the ends justify the means and we’re . K&N are expected to come home Sunday morning from Crouse. If you’d like to speak with her, please call her mobile number. I will probably be home in the evening as the shared rooms at the hospital are not conducive to staying over with her.

Just spoke with your mom. Will try and call you tomorrow when you’re probably not trying to get some much needed rest!

Well, your birth experience was interesting, but look what else happened yesterday. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20070525/ap_tr_ge/travel_brief_plane_birth)

Giving birth … or giving birth without drugs do NOT a mother-make! I suspect Kristin is already past it! Onto the next challenge! Very much enjoying your blog!
