100,000 miles brings me home.

July 21st, 2007 by Chris

My 1997 Acura Integra LS rolled over 100,000 miles today. Being the geek that I am, I synchronized my driving such that the odometer would roll over exactly as I pulled in the driveway. Now for a Honda based product, this mileage only marks reaching middle age even though the car is 10 years old.

100000 Miles Home at Last

I have always liked watching various milestone mileages roll over, and the big 6-digit rollover is the granddaddy of them all. I’ve never known a car to make the million mile mark. It’s sad in a way, because this is quite possibly the last car I’ll ever own with a mechanical odometer.

Whenever I’m feeling particularly geeky, I can just think of you and I seem closer to the ‘normal’ people again :)

It seems that (a few years ago) Dave had someone on who drove around the block a few times so that his Toyota turned a million miles during the show.

We did watch our old Toyota turn 300K before we gave it away–although not in the driveway with a camera ;). It needed a repair that was incredibly expensive in the shop, and it had limited usefulness for us (couldn’t fit a car seat and a front seat passenger, for example). We were planning to have it hauled off when we heard of a friend’s son who had $500 to spend on a car to take him to college. They knew how to fix it and he spent his money on the part and reconditioning the inside. So, it’s still going out there. For a car that weathered Cleveland and Chicago winters (including two 5 feet plus blizzards, one in each town) without ever living in a garage, I think that says a lot for Toyota.

From Heidi’s blog entry yesterday it sounds like you have a family gathering this week. Will this be the first the cousins see each other? I think Dana’s birth is the first one that I have a memory of. I always want to think it was Connie’s, but I remember babysitting Dana so it must be hers. I remember your dad holding the baby and showing her to all of us at the hospital. Anyway, hope you have a great visit!

When Todd got home last night, I told him about your post and my comment, and he pointed out my typo–that should say 200K, not 300.

[...] right? Based on my recent history of rolling my Integra (a Civic coupe derivative to be sure) over 100k miles, this seems like a decent deal. By 100k, I’ll save [...]
