The big 10 mile race is tomorrow. This is exciting. It’s also nerve racking because I’ve been suffering from a ridiculous cramp in my left calf since Tuesday.
K asked me when I got home from work “Are you still going to race?” I said “Well I have to try!”
It’s feeling better today, but there’s not telling if it will hold up. We shall see.

I read your entry to Todd after posting my comment. He says if it’s a constant pain it’s more likely a strain. In that case, take it a little easy in the race (but he wouldn’t not run, either). If it’s recurring every time you’re running, warm up well before stretching, try some massage before the stretch. He would also recommend taking a little salt packet (like the ones from a fast food place). You can dump some on your tongue just before a water break and help avoid cramps. After the race, they may have a free massage area–take advantage of it! He did after he cramped up during the marathon last year and it made a huge difference in his recovery time.
So, that’s the two sense from the runner.
