Long night…

April 1st, 2007 by Kristin

You remember those contractions that I mentioned yesterday? Well about 10pm they started happening again, and they were frequent enough to make me call the doctor. The on-call doctor said that I should go to the hospital and have them check me out, just to make sure that I wasn’t having pre-term labor. So we took a trip over to the hospital at midnight (why is it that every time I have to go to the hospital it’s the middle of the night?). They hooked me up to the monitor so they could check the baby’s heart beat and see how frequent the contractions were. They also did an exam to see if I was dilated, and make sure there were no issues that may have been causing the contractions.

The results: I’m not dilated any (yay!), I have a slight yeast infection (bummer), and was probably a little dehydrated (I’m not convinced), both of which can bring on stronger Braxton Hicks contractions. So I got medicine for the infection, two bags of IV fluids, and was sent home about 3am. If things get worse, I’m supposed to call them.

So we’re calling last night a nice dry run. We now know where to go, have some idea of what to expect, and got a quick tour of the maternity ward.

Today I will be drinking a lot of extra water, and dozing in front of the TV ’cause I’m tired. Hopefully we won’t have to do this again until it’s really time for the baby to come.

Yeesh! Glad all turned out OK. The dehydration thing is such a pat answer …. “Um … let’s push fluids.” You’re right, not very convincing.
