Lullabies

September 19th, 2007 by Kristin

After spending a couple of hours last night listening to Nate’s bedtime music over and over, I came downstairs to rework the playlist, because there are a couple of songs that just drive me batty and I figured it was time to get rid of them. So I opened up iTunes and decided to browse the store for some new lullaby music to add to the rotation. One of the featured albums in the children’s music section was Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of U2. How can anything by U2 possibly be made into appropriate sleepytime music for infants? Then I found that you could get other artists, including Metallica, Pink Floyd, Green Day, NIN, and Nirvana. None of these artists make me think of relaxation music or children at all, yet they are all highly rated. I had to listen. To all of it. It was odd. Some of it I may just have to purchase.

They *are* odd. And, yet, compelling. I don’t even have a regular need for lullabys and I may get them. Of course, knowing me, I’d browse my regular torrent sites for freebie versions instead of paying for them. If you’re interested, I could look for you.

How is “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” possible adaptable as a lullaby? Why not the “1812 Overture”?

  3. Heidi Says:

Well, the lullabies are instrumental. No mention of Martin Luther King, just New Age-y sounding tunes.

Death Lemon! You need to twist nathan’s mind with that remix.

Ah yes. The famous Death Lemon. I think we’ll wait a bit for that lovely mental floss.
Of course I’m one to talk… I hummed him to sleep tonight with selections such as the Star Wars Cantina Song and one of the emotional themes (not sure if it’s Pricess Leia’s theme, but it might be).
I don’t know why… they’re just what came to me.
