Please give a warm welcome to the newest member of the Schierer family. Kristin gave birth to a 9#3oz behemoth.
Nathan Christopher was born at 5:13 this morning. Mom and Nate are doing fine. Dad’s ok too.
Edit: Typo of 5 in place of 9. Nine pounds is the correct base weight.
1:25 PM Edit: Corrected tagging error. Images now link to gallery and a more modest edit of the scale picture.

Hi Nate!
My alarm went off this morning and I grabbed my computer to see how your mom was doing, and then got to wake up Todd to show him your pictures!
Great job mom!

Didn’t you say 9# ?

Good morning little one!
Congratulations to all of you!
We love you so much and are so happy that you’re part of our world now, little Nate (love the name, by the way!).
I’ll call later, please let me know if I should call a nurse’s station (phone #? room #?) or Kristin’s cell in order to have the lesser chance of waking any of you up while you try to catch up on lost sleep.

I just posted something, but I guess it was while you were editing … I was thinking 5# was a bit off.
Anyway, I’m so glad the three of you are doing well! Welcome into our world, little Nate (love the name, by the way!). We love you guys.
I’ll call later … let me know if I should call the cell or a nurse’s station in order to lessen the chance of waking any of you. When you’re settled in a recovery room, please email (or post) Kristin’s room number, as well.
I can’t believe the ordeal you all had to go through to bring your son into the world. But just think of the guilt you could potentially use to your benefit for years to come.

Kristin! I am SO proud of you!!! Both of my boys were that size, but I had c-sections for them – didn’t have to do it the hard way.
Congratulations to the Scheirer family. Your lives will never be the same; what wonderful things you have to look forward to. My younger son turned 1 yesterday. I was hoping Nathan would share his birthday, but I guess he wants his own day. Fair enough.

Googled “Nathan Schierer” and found only one … a tenor going into his senior year at Houghton. (http://campus.houghton.edu/orgs/choir/CCroster.htm)

I stopped back to show a friend at work the pictures, and the weight correction made me think of this:
Emma was 9+ lbs, and lost more than a pound in her first day (babies lose weight, but not usually that much). The nurse who realized it scared me with her reaction, and it all ended with the head of Pediatrics coming in to examine Emma. The end decision was that part of her weight was due to all the IV fluids I’d had during the 24+ hours of labor and the surgery, so it was natural for her to lose that quickly, and that if she’d lost a pound of her own weight she wouldn’t have still looked healthy otherwise. (they also worried that the OR scale was off, and recalibrated every scale on the L&D floor just in case)
Just thought I’d share, so if that happens with Nate it might not be so scary for you.

Hey! I just realized that Nate was born on the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars! That’s karma.

Congratulations! I agree with fellow blogger John. . .little boys do ROCK. Henry can’t wait to meet his new playmate. My thoughts are with all of you. . .but especially Kristin. You are your son’s (and sounds like husband’s) hero. Good job. He’s out and he’s healthy. YEAH!!!!!!

Wow, Liz and I are so excited for you three! And feel so lucky that we’re close enough to come see the little guy!
It’s so wonderful that you have a healthy little boy. Perrin was very close to being named Nathan, so I love it!
And adjusting to things not going as planned during birth seems to be the norm. At least it was for our children. I hope the recovery is easy.
I can’t wait to come meet Nate in person!
Hooray!!
