Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008I’ve seen a similar application in the past, this one is interesting because it appears to be European in origin.

Right Brain vs Left Brain
Friday, December 14th, 2007Obviously the risk of taking an online quiz is that the quiz is bupkis, which is sort-of what I’m wondering after this Right Brain vs Left Brain Quiz.
I rather surprisingly resulted in the following result:
Thank you for taking the Creativity Test. The results show your brain dominance as being:
Left Brain 40%
Right Brain 60%You are more right-brained than left-brained. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. In addition to being known as right-brained, you are also known as a creative thinker who uses feeling and intuition to gather information. You retain this information through the use of images and patterns. You are able to visualize the “whole” picture first, and then work backwards to put the pieces together to create the “whole” picture. Your thought process can appear quite illogical and meandering. The problem-solving techniques that you use involve free association, which is often very innovative and creative. The routes taken to arrive at your conclusions are completely opposite to what a left-brained person would be accustomed. You probably find it easy to express yourself using art, dance, or music. Some occupations usually held by a right-brained person are forest ranger, athlete, beautician, actor/actress, craftsman, and artist.
Yes, that’s right: “forest ranger, athlete, beautician, actor/actress, craftsman, and artist“. This is a test from the Art Institute of Vancouver, perhaps they have a bias towards encouraging people to become artistic forest rangers.
Reading on, this becomes a bit easier for me to match up with my own self awareness:
Your Left Brain Percentages
53% Linear (Your most dominant characteristic)
40% Reality-based
18% Sequential
17% Symbolic
17% Logical
7% Verbal (Your least dominant characteristic)Your Right Brain Percentages
57% Fantasy-oriented (Your most dominant characteristic)
45% Random
42% Holistic
37% Concrete
24% Intuitive
13% Nonverbal (Your least dominant characteristic)
The bold line items (emphasis mine) would seem to be the dominant terms, with “Linear and Realty Based” being somewhat contradictory to “Fantasy-oriented, Random & Holistic”. Wow. I’m messed up.
I do like to organize things carefully and research the facts and then pick instinctively amongst the results based on a sort-of intuition. I admit that I often make decisions this way, and yet, I’ve learned to trust this answer as the result of some instinctive “reality based” decision process.
Is this a rationalization? Probably…. at least that’s my gut reaction.

Sci-Fi Crew For You?
Monday, December 3rd, 2007Toss of the tea cup to Luke for this quiz:
Not that this comes as a shocker, but apparently I belong on the Heart of Gold.
Which crew do you belong on? I’m somewhat pleased that something I’d never read or watched didn’t end up on top. I guess I’ll have to look into Farscape.
