Texas Trip Cont’d…

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Yes, I know that it’s been a while, but this has been a very busy couple of weeks. In any case, the pictures from G-Ma’s 90th cake and ice cream fest have been posted. There are also some pics of playing in the pool afterward and eating dinner on Aunt Bren and Uncle Ray’s patio.

In case you’re wondering (you’re probably not), there are another 477 images in my processing queue. 277 of them are from the Ft. Worth zoo, which should be the next photo installment.

Geeking about Waffle House

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

So this morning K& I slept in late and left the hotel only just before checkout time. We decided to go across the street to Waffle House for breakfast. I can’t honestly be sure that I’ve ever been to a Waffle House before, and to be honest I’m not sure I’ll be overly inspired to go again. However, you have to respect them for what they are… food mass production to the extreme. Quantity wins over quality to be sure, but if you’re going to do something… go all the way.

K & I sat at the bar which gave us the opportunity to observe the place in action. We were seated directly behind the egg/hash brown grill station with the plate prep & waffle station just to the right and the bacon/sausage grill just to the left. Now one was not rewarded by examining the food prep area in any great detail, as there were stray eggshells and other breakfast detritus scattered about. However, the breakfast manufacturing process was quite impressive.

As orders are taken, (more…)

Life is good.

Ice cream melting over fresh apple pie. Fresh like hours ago these apples were still storing sunlight on a New York tree on a cool September day.

… Four hours earlier …

Gala apples warming in the sun…

Meanwhile, at the bottom of a nearby tree, somebody helps himself to the bounty before him…

And then some.

Yeah. Life is good.

K made some really yummy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies the other day. The word got out.

Local Strawberries = Yum.

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

K hit the local farm for strawberries today.

I made shortcakes from scratch.

K cleaned and sliced the berries.

We both* made whipped cream from honest to goodness real heavy cream and sugar.

Fresh home made strawberry shortcake is THE yum.

MMmmm.... Shortcake.

* It took both of us to keep the whisk going at full speed long enough.
